What stays the same
Section titled “What stays the same”Your degree, credit and academic standards stay the same.
Industry Practice replaces the corresponding unit load. It is not additional work on top of your existing enrolment. Your degree requirements and the value of your qualification will not change as a result of the transition.
What is changing?
Section titled “What is changing?”Industry Practice introduces a continuing, company-based learning model in which students contribute to the work of student-run companies.
The undergraduate re-enrolment page will have more information on the replacements relevant to your major or specialisation.
You will not be expected to restart the sequence or complete the same progression as students entering from the beginning.
The new model
Section titled “The new model”You will join a company: You will review the available companies, submit your preferences and join a company aligned with your interests, developing capabilities and professional goals.
You will take on a company role: You will join a team, take on defined responsibilities and learn how your company operates. If you are interested in an eligible leadership role, you can submit an expression of interest — this opens in January 2027 (tentative date).
You will collaborate and be assessed individually: You will work with others towards shared outcomes, while being assessed on your own contributions and capabilities through progressive task checkpoints and mentor feedback.
You will build a professional portfolio: You will submit evidence of your work, development and achievements to build a portfolio you can take forward after graduation.
Why is it changing?
Section titled “Why is it changing?”Some capabilities are best developed through sustained practice rather than through a single project or assessment. Industry Practice gives students ongoing opportunities to apply their learning, take responsibility, respond to feedback and contribute within a company environment.
- Company-based experience: Learn how organisations operate by contributing within a student-run company with its own leadership, projects, clients and responsibilities.
- Progressive assessment: You are assessed on what you can demonstrably do, week by week, in the role you hold. Completed tasks are signed off as you go rather than judged once a semester.
- Portfolio development: Build evidence of your work, contributions and capabilities to support future employment applications and professional conversations.
