How it works

  1. Year 1 — Build your foundations

Undertake your first-year units and develop the foundational knowledge and capability you will need before joining an Industry Practice company.

  2. Year 2 — Join and contribute

Join a company part-way through the first semester of second year, in a role aligned with your developing capabilities, and begin contributing to its projects and ongoing work.

  3. Year 3 — Grow your responsibilities

Take on more complex responsibilities, support incoming students and, if you are interested, submit an expression of interest for the available leadership roles.

  4. Graduation — Take your experience forward

Graduate with a portfolio demonstrating your work, contributions and capabilities, while handing your responsibilities and company knowledge to the students who follow.

Discover what each company does, the areas it works across, and where your interests and strengths could contribute.

Review the available companies and submit your preferences based on your interests, capabilities and professional goals.

Become part of a student-led company, meet your team and mentors, and learn how your company operates. Students interested in eligible leadership roles may also submit an expression of interest.

Take on responsibilities, contribute to company projects, and collaborate with others to deliver outcomes.

Reflect on your development, demonstrate your individual achievements, and build evidence of your capabilities for your professional portfolio.

Explore the companies, learn about the preference process, and discover where your interests and capabilities could contribute.

Your assessment reflects what you contribute, demonstrate and develop throughout the semester.

You work with others towards shared company deliverables, but you are assessed individually on your own contributions, capabilities and development.

Task checkpoints are assessed as pass or fail and signed off progressively throughout the semester, rather than assessed only at the end.

Sessional studio mentors take part in weekly studio classes, at roughly one mentor for every 20 students. They review your work, evaluate your individual contributions, and give feedback as you progress.

If you receive consecutive incomplete task results, you will meet with the teaching team and receive a formal improvement plan outlining the progress and work required.

Every company meets its board three times a semester. These are the fixed points everything else is planned around.

Week 7ProgressMid-semester progress review against the plan, with the board and lead industry mentor.
